I always find it interesting how people say that they love the trombone. But when they book gigs they still put saxes on the gigs. And I find it hard to believe that the club owners are insisting on having a sax in the band. Am I missing something here? Any comments???

I think it has something to do with fear.
The fact that most folks can relate to the pleasing sound it makes is a true thing.
I think that club owners, et. al. don’t know what to make of an instrument that changes its size, shape and dimensions as it is operated.
I’m sure this induces fear (at least on some basic level) among the uninitiated.
Me? I like trombone, but then, I am a trumpeter.
I think most club owners don’t have a clue. And if you played them something they probably couldn’t tell you the instrument they were listening to.

It’s a great view on making a living in music. I couldn’t have written it any better.
